The Story Behind the House
Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun baron William Winchester, inherited a small providence after his death in 1881. It’s rumored that a medium persuaded her to shift to the West and build a house reconcile the spirits of those who were killed by Winchester rifles. Because those spirits constantly haunt her family and fortune. She had a strong belief in ghosts, so she did exactly what she told. Various modifications and additions to that house for next 38 years!! People were convinced that she had gone mad and some thought that she was depressed.

The house was built in a chaotic manner, without any planning and further alterations were made on sudden whims by Sarah Winchester. There are many doors and staircase that leads to nowhere, windows that strangely look into other rooms and halls with multiple fireplaces. She was also obsessed with the number 13. The house was constantly becoming a mystery place.
Are there Things that Go Bump in the Night?
It is a firm belief that there are a continuous shadow and elderly handyman who used to work on the house. Usually, he is seen working on the fireplace or pushing his wheelbarrow down one of the dark hallways. There is also a rumor of someone tapping their shoulders or pushing their backs in certain halls of the house. Visitors have also reported of an elder little woman, who can be seen gliding down the hallways, exhaling heavily. These are some of the paranormal histories of the famous mansion.
